Women's Center @ FIU

When I dare to be powerful, to use my strength in the service of my vision, then it becomes less and less important whether I am afraid.

– Audre Lorde

Interning at the Women's Center brought with it many pleasant experiences and surprises. As an intern, I worked closely with other student leaders as well as several offices and departments to put together events and programming to bring awareness to gender-based issues. As a part of the La Colectiva group, I helped create informational and discussion-based presentations/events about the queer experience within Latine households, first generation vs second generation college student experiences, anti-blackness in minority communities, and the oversexualization of minority women. I also became the head for creating Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM) programming alongside the It's On Us office. My colleagues at the Women's Center are some of the kindest and most welcoming people I have met at FIU and I am very grateful to them for giving me the opportunity to join their wonderful group and learn from each and every one of them. This office truly reignited my passion for activism and the kinds of responses we get to our events gave me hope for the future.
