This is my Global Learning experience!
Alternative Breaks
I volunteered with a group of fellow aB members at 826 CHI in Chicago. We were tutoring children from grades 1 to 5 in creative writing in the English language. I personally mostly worked with ESOL students who did not fully understand the language but still loved to learn and write. Through my experience there, I learned the challenges that students in underserved populations face within the school system. Uneven school funding does not permit students to always receive the quality of education or the necessary resources to attain said education among minority populations. The kids I worked with faced these consequences daily and I only wished I could provide more consistent support for them.
