Study Abroad

I did the Italy: Food, Fashion, Cinema, and Cars study abroad program through the Office of Study Abroad at FIU. We spent a month in Italy over the summer visiting cities like Rome, Genoa, and Milan as we learned about Italian history and experienced the culture. We learned basic Italian, learned about regional gastronomy, and visited everything from ancient ruins to modern car factories to learn more about Italian history and economics. During our trip, there was a huge focus on the effects that totalitarianism – particularly fascism – can have on a nation. The rise and fall of the Italian fascist government brought with it transmutations of cultural and historical symbolism and a general shift in Italian culture and industries. I am so glad to have been able to experience this culturally and historically immersive experience with my fellow FIU students!
